11/21/2022

EI.BO, a non-profit focused on reducing barriers to K-12 STEM education, held its semi-annual charity LAN Party, Laclede’s LAN, at the Wool Ballroom in the Busch Student Center on Saturday, Oct. 22

At this event, Laclede’s LAN donated $10,000 to Summer At SLU for students attending K-12 camps and academies. The $10,000 scholarship fund will allow students to attend Summer At SLU’s STEM programs, which include offerings in robotics, coding, program development with java, game design, and more.

“It is thrilling to see our partnership with Laclede’s LAN flourish over the years," said Troy Hargrove, associate dean, School for Professional Studies. "We are incredibly thankful for their generous scholarship donation to support our continued efforts in the STEM K-12 education space which makes those opportunities accessible each summer,”

EI.BO was started by volunteers from Laclede’s LAN, a St. Louis volunteer-run organization that has been throwing LAN parties (PC gaming events) since 2004. Laclede’s LAN rebooted in 2014 with a new focus on supporting STEM education throughout the St. Louis area.

“We are pleased to support Summer At SLU and provide STEM scholarships for students in need,” said Nate Cowen, EI.BO President. “SLU has been a great partner to our organization since 2015, helping to provide us space, power, and internet needs for our charity LAN Party events. These events have helped us to raise over $90,000 to the local area in STEM education efforts.”

Summer 2023 camps and academies are currently being added to summer.slu.edu — registration will open in January. To learn more, visit the website.
