ITS Discontinuing Legacy Email Authentication

08/03/2023

As part of SLU's ongoing efforts to enhance security for the University Office 365 email system, ITS will be discontinuing the availability of legacy authentication on Thursday, Aug. 10, beginning at 7 p.m.

Once this change has been completed, legacy authentication for email will no longer function or be supported.

If users are already using the Microsoft Outlook or the web version of Office 365 to access SLU email, they will not be impacted by this change.

If users are currently using an alternative application, such as Thunderbird, to access your email, they will need to transition to either Microsoft Outlook or the web version of Office 365 (available via myslu.slu.edu) to access their email. Both Outlook and O365 offer numerous advantages, including better integration with other university systems, improved collaboration features, and stronger security measures.

Additionally, if users have configured a third-party email service provider such as Google or Yahoo to pull email from their SLU email account, this feature will cease functioning once the legacy authentication feature has been shut down. This change does not affect forwarding emails from Outlook to other third-party email systems.

If anyone has questions about this change, needs assistance with moving to Outlook or the web-based Office 365 tools, or has any other related ITS concerns, they should contact the help desk at 977-4000 or email at ask@slu.edu
