Fall 2023 Friday Mass and Speaker Series Launches September 1

08/10/2023

On Friday, Sept. 1, the Office of Mission and Identity will begin the Fall 2023 Friday Mass and Speaker Series.

The Friday Mass and Speaker Series is designed to explore the Apostolic Preferences of the Society of Jesus and how they come to life at Saint Louis University. The first talk will focus on the Apostolic Preference, "walk with the poor, the outcasts of the world, those whose dignity has been violated, in a mission of reconciliation and justice."

Ness Sandoval, Ph.D, Sociology, will speak about his statistical research on the city of St. Louis. His research focuses on what maps tell about risks and resilience in St. Louis. Sandoval will speak about population trends, data maps, and how these statistics when placed into small micro-demographic grids, translate the story this data tells. The data, given to everyday citizens, helps inform their decisions on how to transform their block and, eventually, their neighborhood.

The series will kick off Friday, Sept. 1, in Boileau Hall. The event will begin with a Mass at noon followed by a lunch and lectured.

Anyone interested in attending should register in advance
