Nominations Needed for 2023 Mary A. Bruemmer Women of the Year

01/24/2023

Since 1977, the Saint Louis University Women’s Commission has honored outstanding University women.

In the past, these women were celebrated at an annual luncheon in April. The preference is to celebrate in person, but due to the pandemic’s uncertainty an alternate format might be inevitable. For now, the Women’s Commission is planning for an in-person celebration at 11:30 a.m. with lunch served at noon on Monday, April 24.

Everyone is invited and encouraged to find an outstanding woman whose life and work are exemplars to be admired and imitated, and to submit a letter nominating her to be recognized as one of the five Women of the Year.

Guidelines for submitting a nomination:

  1. A typed letter of nomination should follow the criteria for selection listed below, and be approximately 1,000 words. Bullet points are acceptable.
  2. The nomination must be signed.
  3. To nominate more than one individual, it is necessary to submit separate letters.
  4. The number of letters for a single individual is not necessarily a factor in the selection process.

Criteria for selection (include in nomination letter):

  1. 1. Give evidence of her commitment to Saint Louis University’s philosophy, measured by the quality and diversity of her service, her work ethic and integrity.
  2. List how she has been recognized and honored for her professional and personal achievements. (Please list awards, honors, and distinctions she has received and significant contributions she has made.)
  3. Give evidence of her sensitivity to cultural and ethnic diversity, at all levels.
  4. Give evidence how she is a “person for others” in the Ignatian tradition, both on campus and in the community around her.
  5. Give evidence of how she fosters the personal and professional development of women at SLU and within the community.
  6. Years of Service: The nominee must be an employee who has been employed at the University at least five years.

Women who have been selected previously for this honor are not eligible. A list of the past honorees can be found online. The previous ceremony, held in April 2022, recognized women from 2022, 2021 and 2020 because of COVID-related cancellations of the event.

Letters of nomination should be sent to Kellisa Fiala, Women’s Commission Awards Chair via email to kellisa.fiala@slu.edu. The due date is Monday, Feb. 27.

Anyone with questions should contact Kellisa Fiala at kellisa.fiala@slu.edu.
