Staff, Faculty Volunteers Needed for MLK, Presidential Scholarship Weekends

01/10/2023

In the coming weeks, the Office of Admission will be welcoming some of the nation’s finest high school students to campus for Presidential Scholarship Interview Weekends and Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Interview Weekend. While interviewing for these prestigious scholarships, students will attend a variety of activities designed to make their campus visit a memorable celebration of their accomplishments.

Presidential Scholarship Interviews will take place on Saturday, Feb. 11, and Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023. The Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship interviews will take place on Saturday, March 4. Additionally, virtual interviews will be offered to international students and students in need of medical or financial accommodations.

Virtual Presidential Scholarship interviews will take place Feb.27 to March 3. Virtual Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship interviews will take place March 6 to March 10.

All SLU faculty, staff members and alumni are invited to participate as interviewers and are encouraged to invite colleagues or friends. On the day of each interview date, leaders from the St. Louis community will join SLU faculty, staff and alumni to participate in a volunteer interviewer training session.

Interested campus partners should register at least one week prior to their selected interview date.

Candidates for both scholarships are invited to take part in a number of optional activities, including beginning their visit on Thursday with an optional overnight stay with a current scholar in a residence hall. On Friday, students will attend class, have lunch with current scholars, participate in a trolley tour of St. Louis or a walking tour of SLU’s campus, meet their admission counselor, and attend the President’s Welcome Reception. Following breakfast on Saturday, students will begin completing their interviews and attend a variety of panels and presentations before departing campus.

Students eligible for the Presidential Scholarship have earned a cumulative high school GPA of 3.85 or higher and exemplify Saint Louis University’s mission of service while also demonstrating strong leadership and interpersonal skills. This scholarship awards students with the full cost of tuition for four years, and offers benefits such as additional funding for immersive learning experiences.

Students eligible for the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship have earned a cumulative high school GPA of 3.25 or higher and have demonstrated the ideals of Dr. King and his legacy through acts of leadership for social change within their school or community. This scholarship offers $3,000 per academic year in addition to any previously awarded SLU scholarships. Additionally, students are offered the benefit of participating in the King Scholars program, designed to deepen students’ self-awareness, gain exposure to multicultural experiences and develop as an advocate for positive social change.
