Mission Book Club First Meeting Is October 3

The Division of Mission and Identity's fall 2023 book club will have its first meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 3.

The book for this fall will be "Backpacking With The Saints: Wilderness Hiking as Spiritual Practice" by SLU professor emeritus Belden C. Lane, Ph.D.

Lane's book takes readers on his journeys into the wilderness, demonstrating how being alone in the wild opens a rare view onto one's interior landscape, and how the saints' writings reveal the divine in nature.

The book club kick off at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 3, with a short Zoom introduction.

On Saturday, Oct. 21,  there will be an opportunity to enter into the wilderness at SLU’s 350 acre Lay Center for Education and the Arts in Louisiana, Missouri. Visitors are invited to join the Division of Mission and Identity for an overnight retreat, or day outing. 

The book club will meet the author,at the closing luncheon at noon on Tuesday, Nov. 21 in the Pere Marquette Gallery in DuBourg Hall.
