University Counseling Center, Division of Diversity and Innovative Community Engagement and the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Art Therapy Program teamed up to host Art Hives on Friday, April 5. The event drew a large crowd along West Pine Mall.

An Art Hive is a community art studio that welcomes everyone as an artist. The open art studio was designed to promote and facilitate a sense of belonging, connection and empowerment for those wanting to use creativity as a form of self-expression.

"This pop-up event strives to offer a welcoming and supportive space, where everyone is an artist," said Knieba Jones-Johnson, Director of the University Counseling Center.

Materials were provided and facilitators from the UCC and SIUE program were available for the number of students who took part in the event.
