02/22/2024

Saint Louis University will honor the life and legacy of pioneering criminologist Norman A. White, Ph.D., with a lecture and reception on April 10, in Pere Marquette Hall from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Dr. Norman A. White Lecture presents speakers who embody the spirit of and commitment to social justice possessed by the late SLU faculty member. White was an Associate Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice from 2004 to 2017. He was highly respected for his community service, teaching, and research.

White is remembered for his passion for using knowledge to bring about meaningful change in the lives and hearts of people, schools, communities, and society-at-large. His work as an activist and a scholar was recognized nationally.

This year the School of Social Work will welcome DeMarco K. Davidson, M.Div., a dynamic community leader with a diverse background in education, engineering, and youth development. He has showcased leadership as the Regional Vice President for Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and co-founded the Black Man's Think Tank of UMR.

Recognized for his impactful work as a Field Organizer for President Obama in St. Louis, Davidson's commitment to community continued through roles such as a teacher, After-School Director, Youth Advisor, Project Manager, and mentor. In 2018, he earned a Masters in Divinity with an emphasis in Liberation Theology & Faith-Based Community Organizing. Serving as the Executive Director & Voter Program Lead for Metropolitan Congregations United, Davidson focuses on organizing people of faith and voters in St. Louis to address issues like the school-to-prison pipeline and foster unity between Urban & Rural citizens in Missouri.

Seating is limited, so registration in advance is requested.
