AHEAD Institute Distinguished Visiting Professor Anton Gradišek April 4

Visiting professor and researcher Anton Gradišek, Ph.D., will share his expertise with the AHEAD Institute research community and the faculty, staff, and students of the Department of Health and Clinical Outcomes Research during an event on Thursday, April 4, at noon.

Gradišek will present his current research, "Using Technology to Help the Elderly: A Case Study about a Smart Watch."

Gradišek is the senior research fellow at the Jožef Stefan Institute and Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Physics at the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia. Gradišek was a Fulbright Scholar at Washington University in Saint Louis. Originally Gradišek trained as a solid-state physicist, and he now focuses on artificial intelligence applications in medicine, with a special emphasis on explainable AI.

He has published 60 scientific papers, 40 full conference papers, and is an editor of a Slovenian journal centered on popularizing science. Gradišek was a member of two teams that participated at XPRIZE competitions, with one team reaching the finals and the other winning the second prize at the pandemic response challenge.
 
Assistive technologies for the elderly are gaining prominence considering the aging population trends. In this seminar, Gradišek will outline the creation and testing of the system that his team developed. Attendees will learn about explainable AI, data protection, and accessibility in this engaging presentation.
