The W. M. Keck Foundation has awarded past grants to major universities, independent research institutions, and medical schools to support pioneering biological and physical science research and engineering, including the development of promising new technologies, instrumentation or methodologies.
The median range for a request is $1.2 million over 3 years. The investigator must have a very strong rationale for any request over $1.2 million.
Successful proposals must:
- Focus on important and emerging areas of research
- Demonstrate a high level of risk due to unconventional approaches or challenges to prevailing paradigms
- Have potential to develop breakthrough technologies, instrumentation, or methodologies
- Focus on the distinctiveness of the concept, innovation, and interdisciplinary
- Demonstrate that W. M. Keck Foundation support is essential to the project’s success
Guidance for the Nomination Process
To be considered for SLU’s submissions, interested faculty should submit a brief abstract, a 2-3 page project summary, and a C.V. or biosketch through via SLU’s OpenWater tool by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 16, 2025.
Applicants will be notified of the outcome by Friday, May 30, 2025, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
