Jean Marie Cox Named Interim Vice President for Enrollment Management

Saint Louis University has named Jean Marie Cox interim vice president for enrollment management, effective July 2025. Cox has been a key enrollment leader at SLU for 17 years, most recently serving as associate vice president and dean of admission.
“In today’s highly competitive higher education landscape, strong enrollment leadership is more important than ever,” said Provost Michael Lewis, Ph.D. “Jean not only brings deep experience with enrollment to this new role, but also a mission-driven approach that puts students and families first during this important time for our University.”
During her tenure, Cox led efforts that grew undergraduate applications by more than 40% over five years and increased the diversity of entering freshman classes by nearly 10%. She also assisted with the implementation of the Global Graduate Initiative and strengthened collaboration with SLU’s Madrid campus, including planning and leading international conferences for global higher education professionals.
In response to national FAFSA delays, Cox helped implement one of the nation’s first institutional aid estimation processes, providing students and families with earlier, clearer financial guidance during a time of uncertainty. She also helped streamline University operations by consolidating 12 enrollment systems into a single customer relationship management platform.
“For the past 17 years, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside a mission-driven team that lives out our Jesuit values each day,” Cox said. “As I step into this role, I do so with a spirit of hope, purpose, and strategic focus — committed to expanding access and fostering innovation in how we engage with students and families. This is a moment of great opportunity, and I look forward to working collaboratively across campus to ensure our enrollment efforts reflect the excellence, compassion and community that define SLU.”
Beyond her leadership in enrollment, Cox is known for her deep commitment to SLU’s mission, contributing through campus committees and other forms of University service. In 2025, that dedication was recognized with the Mary A. Bruemmer Award, presented annually by the Saint Louis University Women’s Commission.
“Her colleagues consistently describe her as one of the hardest workers they know. This is what she does at SLU,” an award nominator said of Cox. “Even more noteworthy, though, is who she is at SLU. Her focus is always outward — on the students and families she serves, and the colleagues who join her in this service.”
Cox is the past president and a current board member of the National Catholic College Admission Association (CCAA). Her other professional affiliations include the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), NAFSA: Association of International Educators, and the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admission Officers (AACRAO).
Prior to working at SLU, Cox served as director of recruitment at Marshall University in West Virginia from 2006-2008 and assistant director for undergraduate recruitment at Louisiana State University (LSU) from 2002-2006. She holds a bachelor's degree in public relations from Southwest Missouri State University and a master’s degree in human resource education from LSU.
SLU’s Division of Enrollment Management works collaboratively with the University community to build a strategic enrollment management culture focused on achieving the University's student profile and success goals in a manner that is consistent with SLU's position as a Catholic, Jesuit institution and national research university.
The division provides a wide range of services and data resources to help maximize SLU's ability to attract, enroll, retain and graduate talented and diverse students who are dedicated to changing the world for the better. The division currently consists of more than 140 team members supporting five departments.
The enrollment management team will be supported on a part-time basis by senior advisor Jon Boeckenstedt, who most recently served as vice provost for enrollment management at Oregon State University, where he helped the university achieve record gains in total enrollment.
