STARS@SLU Poster Presentation Is August 8

07/29/2025

The STARS@SLU program helps high school students learn how to use R for data analysis, work on team research projects with real-world datasets, and present their findings at a poster session.

The poster presentations will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 8, in the lobby of the Sinquefield Science and Engineering Center.

Faculty in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics have received a Tensor SUMMA Grant to run STARS@SLU, a two-week summer program designed for rising high school juniors and seniors.

The Tensor Strengthening Underrepresented Minority Mathematics Achievement (SUMMA) Grant is funded by the Tensor Foundation through Mathematical Association of America. Tensor SUMMA Grants support projects that provide mathematics enrichment to middle school, high school, and undergraduate students from groups historically underrepresented in the field of mathematics. Projects aim to encourage the pursuit and enjoyment of mathematics amongst these students and prepare them for their continued studies in mathematics.

The STARS@SLU program will take place in ISE 230, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, July 28 to Friday, Aug. 8, 2025. The program also includes mentoring, guest speaker talks, and sessions about college life and STEM careers. Full program details are available on the group's website.
