SLU students visited General Electrics Aerospace as part of the Career Services Trek to Cincinnati. Submitted photo.

The first employer visit was with Ipsos, a marketing research company. Students interacted with team members through a panel conversation, and the employer panelists discussed their research roles, described qualitative versus quantitative approaches, and explained that stories are much more memorable than facts. They also explained that individuals differ in their preferences towards promotion or prevention, and this affects the types of messaging utilized in marketing campaigns.

Career Services and students then visited Procter & Gamble, the parent company to brands such as Tide, Pampers, Bounce, Charmin, Tampax, Gillette, Head & Shoulders, Old Spice, and Dawn. During this visit, students received a tour of the Procter & Gamble Archives, where they learned about their innovative process focused on bringing consumers solutions to their problems. They also received a presentation from current staff and had conversations centered around flexibility for employees and the many professional opportunities within the company.

Students then attended a professional networking dinner at Xavier University, with alumni and employers in the Cincinnati area, allowing them to make meaningful connections and build their networks.

On the final day, Career Services and students visited General Electric Aerospace, also known as GE Aerospace. During this visit, students received a presentation about paid internships and co-op opportunities, the many global locations available for employment, and interesting projects employees had completed during their time with the organization. Students were also provided a tour that allowed them to directly observe and ask questions about multiple aircraft engine models, leading to valuable insights into cutting-edge aerospace technology.
