Registration Open for Cannonball Conference

Registration is now open for the 2025 Cannonball Conference.

The Cannonball Conference, for university staff members, is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 23, in the Busch Student Center. This event is held each year to recognize staff contributions to SLU and gets its name from the battlefield injury suffered by St. Ignatius in 1521.

The Cannonball Conference will be Thursday, Oct. 23, 2025.

Organizers encourage a comfortable business casual atmosphere for the event.  Staff members will not be required to use vacation hours or leave time to participate.

To support SLU's local community, a hygiene and personal care item drive will be held in partnership with the St. Patrick’s Center. Staff are invited to bring any donations to the conference and drop them off in designated bins.  To see a list of needed items, visit the Cannonball Conference site for more information.

To ensure an accurate food and sweatshirt count, attendees must RSVP online by noon on Wednesday, Oct. 8.

The Grand Shuttle will run every 20 minutes if staff needs transportation to and from the event on campus. Reciprocal parking will be available in the Laclede parking garage for those who drive to the Busch Student Center.

In 1987, O'Leary was a curious nine-year old boy.  Playing with fire and gasoline, he created a massive explosion in his home and was burned on 100% of his body. He was given less than a 1% chance to live.

His epic story of survival was first showcased in “Overwhelming Odds,” the book his parents wrote in 2006.  It was this book that first invited O'Leary to embrace his miraculous recovery and share it with the world. Today, O'Leary inspires tens of thousands of people at more than 100 live and virtual events each year.  Consistently described as “the best speaker we've ever had,” his emotional storytelling, unexpected humor and authenticity make each presentation unforgettable.

O'Leary is a two-time bestselling author of “On Fire:  The 7 Choices to Ignite a Radically Inspired Life” and “In Awe:  Rediscover Your Childlike Wonder to Unleash Inspiration, Meaning, and Joy.”  O'Leary's award-winning “Live Inspired” Podcast has more than seven million downloads and enjoys world-class guests such as Brene Brown, Mitch Albom, Jackie Joyner-Kersee and Bob Costas.

A full-length feature film starring Joel Courtney, John Corbett, and William H. Macy based on his best-selling book is set to be released in theaters nationwide on October 10, 2025. Portions of “Soul on Fire” were filmed on SLU's campus in 2023.

Regardless of his professional accomplishments, O'Leary considers his greatest success to be his marriage to his wife Beth, their four children and the relationships with his friends and family.
