DICE’s Clay Institute Kicks Off the Semester
To honor National Voter Registration Day, the Division of Diversity and Innovative Engagement, led by the Center for Social Action and the Clay Institute of Civic Engagement and Economic Justice, sponsored a voter registration table on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2025.
Recently the Campus Vote Project and NASPA designated SLU a 2025-2026 Voter Friendly Campus.
Policy Pods also kicked off this past month with more than100 students gathering to engage in legislative research and meetings. Pod participants meet weekly on topics such as criminal-justice reform, immigration reform, the environment, education immigration, disability rights and others. As part of the Policy Pods experience, participants engage in meetings with related advocacy agencies, legislators, and host educational events on campus related to their topics.
At the kickoff, students learned more about the legislative process and advocacy within the frame of Catholic Social Teaching. Past Policy Pod student leaders have engaged local and state legislators supporting bills such as legalizing Fentanyl Test Strips and Eliminating the Pink Tax, which passed in the Missouri Legislature.
The Clay Institute supports civic engagement and voter registration year-round. Students can visit the Center for Global Citizenship, Suite 134 and learn more about programming and voting as a college student, change their voter registration, or register for the first time.
Most states have online voter registration including Missouri and Illinois.
In other states, to find and contact local election offices for help with registering to vote.
Anyone who is interested in helping with future voter engagement efforts or learning more about Policy Pods should contact Nia Duke in the Clay Institute.
