Reinert Center to Host Two Institutes for Faculty This Summer

The Reinert Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning is announcing two professional development opportunities for faculty this summer in the form of two different institutes.

The Course Design Institute (CDI) will take place Monday, June 1 to Friday, June 5, in Des Peres Hall. CDI is an intensive, four-day, hands-on workshop that provides instructors the opportunity to experience the iterative, dynamic, and scholarly process of learning-focused course design. All sessions will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Participants must commit to attending all sessions during the CDI, and to completing "homework" each evening.

Space is limited. The deadline for submissions is Monday, May 11. Additional details and FAQs can be found on the Reinert Center's webpage.

Registration is required.

The second opportunity for faculty will take place Monday, July 27, to Friday, July 31, also in Des Peres Hall. Connecting with differences, which go far beyond our countries of origin, and supporting instructors to more effectively support learning by embracing varied experiences, perspectives, and assumptions about teaching and learning is the goal of the Reinert Center's annual Culturally Responsive Teaching Institute (CRTI).

CRTI is a five-day summer institute structured to provide the time and space for instructors to better prepare for culturally diverse classrooms. The institute continues throughout the academic year with optional Community of Practice meetings during which participants apply principles of culturally responsive teaching in collaboration with one another and Reinert Center staff.

SLU faculty leave this institute better aware of their own cultural influences on teaching, the cultural nuances of their academic disciplines, and the diverse cultures of their students.

Registration is required.
