Director of the Center for Bosnian Studies to Speak at March 6 Mass and Speaker Event

The Division of Mission and Identity is hosting Adna Karamehic‑Oates, Ph.D., director of the Center for Bosnian Studies, at its Friday Mass and Speaker event on Friday, March 6. The gathering at Boileau Hall begins with Mass at noon, followed by lunch and a presentation from Karamehic‑Oates.

Karamehic‑Oates will highlight the Center’s mission to preserve the histories, stories, and cultural heritage of Bosnian genocide survivors—work deeply connected to St. Louis, home to the largest Bosnian community outside Bosnia‑Herzegovina. She will also discuss the Center’s recent transition to its permanent home at SLU and its expanding role in education, research, and community memory.
Connection to the Universal Apostolic Preferences

This event reflects SLU’s Jesuit commitment to the Universal Apostolic Preferences, especially the call to walk with those whose dignity has been violated.

The Center for Bosnian Studies embodies this mission through its dedication to documenting the experiences of those affected by war, genocide, and displacement.

Its educational outreach and oral history initiatives support the UAP priority of journeying with youth, inviting students and scholars into deeper understanding of justice, truth, and global solidarity.

Through its work of remembrance and reconciliation, the Center advances the UAP call to care for our common humanity, fostering compassion, connection, and peace.

Karamehic‑Oates’ presentation offers the SLU community a meaningful opportunity to reflect on memory, justice, and faith—and to engage personally with stories of resilience and dignity.
