Two Faculty Development Workshops Scheduled
Two workshops SLU faculty members are scheduled for this spring.
The Dignity-Based Teaching Workshop will be on Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, and Leadership Workshop – Fostering Dignity and Belonging will be on Friday, April 10, 2026.
Session 1: Dignity-Based Teaching Workshop
Registration is open for the first session, Dignity-Based Teaching Workshop. This session will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, in the Pere Marquette Gallery, Room 240 DuBourg Hall.
The facilitator for this event will be Jackson Nickerson, Ph.D., Edward Jones Dean, Chaifetz School of Business. There will be a dean's panel featuring deans Donna LaVoie, Ph.D., College of Arts and Sciences; Kris L'Ecuyer, Ph.D., Trudy Busch Valentine School of Nursing; and Twinette Johnson, J.D., Ph.D., School of Law.
This workshop has been pre-approved for one substitute credit toward either the Foundations or Principles Certificate in University Teaching Skills, offered through the Reinert Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning. Participants must follow the standard substitute credit procedures to earn the credit.
Workshop Overview
Grounded in a mission-focused, student-centered, and research-driven approach, this hands-on teaching workshop offers practices and strategies to masterful teaching in the undergraduate, graduate, and executive classroom. The Deans’ Panel will share valuable insights and inspiration for transformative teaching.

Session 2: Leadership Workshop – Fostering Dignity and Belonging
Registration is open for Leadership Workshop – Fostering Dignity and Belonging. This session will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, April 10, 2026 in room L30 of the Chaifetz School of Business.
Co-facilitators for the event will be Nickerson and Suzy Hartmann, faculty affiliate, Emerson Leadership Institute. The leaders’ panel will feature Rochelle Smith, vice president and chief belonging officer; and David Suwalsky, Ph.D., S.J., vice president for mission and identity.
Workshop Overview
The foundation for successfully working with others is laid by fostering dignity and belonging in every interaction. Yet, sadly, dignity violations and alienation are far too common. How can leaders foster dignity and belonging throughout their organization? This session provides insight into how and when interactions among people violate dignity or cause alienation. It also introduces participants to principles and practical tools to greatly increase the likelihood of fostering dignity and belonging in all interactions and meetings.
Learning Objectives
- Gain a better understanding of dignity, dignity violations, belonging, and alienation
- Learn five meeting principles and practices that foster dignity and belonging
- Apply these five principles and practices in meetings
