Jorgensen to Speak at Mission and Identity Mass and Speaker Event
Abigail Jorgensen, Ph.D., assistant professor of sociology and health care ethics at Saint Louis University, will be the guest speaker at February's Mission and Identity Mass and Speaker Series event. The event will take place at noon on Friday, Feb. 6, 2026.
Jorgensen brings a rare blend of academic insight, pastoral sensitivity, and practical training to her work. In addition to her scholarly research, she is a certified doula and childbirth educator, specializing in supporting families experiencing perinatal loss. Her research emphasizes grief-informed, evidence-based approaches for those who accompany parents through miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant loss. She is also the author of "A Catholic Guide to Miscarriage, Stillbirth, and Infant Loss," a resource that integrates compassionate pastoral guidance with Catholic teaching for those navigating profound grief.
The event will take place in Boileau Hall, 38 N. Vandeventer Ave. beginning at noon with Mass, followed by lunch and the presentation. This mid‑day gathering offers a moment of reflection, fellowship, and deep engagement with the University’s mission. Jorgensen will speak on the Universal Apostolic Preferences: showing the way to God, and walking with those who are hurting.
Drawing from her scholarship, her work with families, and her spiritual perspective, she will explore how this Apostolic Preference calls individuals and institutions to accompany others with humility, attentiveness, and hope. Her talk is expected to offer practical insights on how faith shapes care, community, and healing.
