SLU Hosts Restorative Justice Facilitator Training
Saint Louis University recently hosted the Foundational Training in Restorative Justice for Catholic Higher Education, offered through the Restorative Justice Network of Catholic Campuses (RNJCC) in partnership with the University of San Diego's Kroc School of Peace Studies and Center for Restorative Justice.
Nearly 30 colleagues from Catholic campuses gathered at SLU for an immersive 2.5 day experiential workshop. SLU students, as well as representatives from Student Development, Mission and Identity, Academic Integrity, and the Office of Equal Opportunity and Title IX were also in attendance.
Participants explored the history and core principles of restorative justice, practiced facilitating community-building and restorative circle processes, engaged in restorative conference role play, and developed team-based, mission-driven implementation plans to bring restorative practices back to their home institution.
The training opened on Monday, June 22 and on Monday evening, a Restorative Justice Circle was offered to the broader Saint Louis University community grounded in the Society of Jesus' current Apostolic Preference of accompanying our youth in the development of a hope filled future. While the training concluded on Wednesday, plans are underway to integrate restorative practices more broadly across campus.
