Photos: Billiken Fans Take in NCAA Tournament in Buffalo

For the first time since 2019, the Saint Louis University men’s basketball team qualified for the NCAA Tournament, and Billiken fans were ready.

The Billikens, making their 11th NCAA Men's Basketball Championship appearance in program history and their first since 2019, earned a No. 9 seed in the Midwest Region. The Billikens, the World’s Greatest Pep Band, cheerleaders, students, fans, and alumni travelled to Buffalo, New York, to watch SLU take the court in the NCAA Tournament.

Fans took part in pregame pep rallies, got a chance to watch the Billikens warm up, and saw SLU make some history in the first-round opener.

Against the University of Georgia, SLU won big. The Billiken blew past the Bulldogs, 102-77, on Thursday, March 19, to advance to the second round. The Billikens set all kinds of school records for an NCAA Tournament game, including points (102), field goals (42), assists (27) and margin of victory (+25). The 102 points were a KeyBank Center record in an NCAA Tournament game as well.

Fans celebrated the win and then got ready for the second round. The University of Michigan awaited SLU. The top-seeded Wolverines came away with a 95-72 win on Saturday, March 21, to advance to the Sweet 16.

SLU finished the year with a 29-6 record. The 29 wins were the most in program history.
