School of Education Hosting Book Launch Event on November 5

Saint Louis University School of Education’s Jaime E. Welborn, Ph.D., is expanding her scholarship on Cultural Proficiency through a series of new books focused on classroom practice, educational leadership and culturally responsive interventions for students.

Welborn, assistant professor of educational leadership in the School of Education, has focused much of her scholarship and service on Cultural Proficiency, educational equity, leadership and organizational change. Her work examines how educators and leaders can translate commitments to access, belonging, and student success into everyday policies, systems and practices.

This fall, that work continues with the publication of Navigating Your True North in the Classroom: A Culturally Proficient Action-Guide for Transformative Teaching and Learning, co-authored with Peter Flores III, Ed.D., and published by Corwin. The book brings Cultural Proficiency into the classroom, offering educators practical approaches to curriculum, instruction, assessment, classroom management, restorative practices, student well-being, communication, and family and community engagement. It also introduces the Compass Framework for Praxis and Transformative Change, designed to help educators move from reflection to action.

Welborn’s scholarship also extends to students requiring intensive support through two Teachers College Press published books she co-authored with lead-author, Tyisha Noise, Ed.D.: Culturally Responsive Tier III Interventions for Elementary Students and Culturally Responsive Tier III Interventions for Secondary Students.

Welborn is also contributing as lead-editor to the preparation of educational leaders through the JEDI Leadership: Foundational Theory, Research, and Case Studies in Diverse Educational Settings series, published through the International Council of Professors of Educational Leadership (ICPEL). The series connects leadership theory and research with the realities of leading across diverse educational contexts.

Together, the publications reflect a connected scholarly agenda spanning leadership, classroom practice and intensive student support.
