Parents and Third-Party Record Access

Students at Saint Louis University may use Banner Self-Service to grant parents, guardians or third parties access to their academic records, student accounts, financial aid, housing or conduct records through mySLU Share.

This access must be given by the student. Saint Louis University cannot grant this access outside of this process.

How does a student grant access to an authorized user?

Go to mySLUShare Student Authorization of Education Record Release for student instructions on adding authorized users.

How does a designated authorized user get access to their student's information?

Access a designated student's information online through mySLUShare.slu.edu. You may also access information in person or over the phone by identifying yourself and verifying your authorization using your four-digit access code found on your mySLU Share homepage. Do authorized users need an email address?

Yes, each authorized user must have a valid email address. Users who share an email address will have to create an individual email address in order to receive individual authorization.

Can students have multiple authorized users?

Yes, students may have more than one authorized user with each having access specific to each of them.

Can an authorized user have access to multiple students' records?

Yes. Each access must be granted by the individual student.

Will there be any correspondence sent to the authorized user during this process?

Yes, an authorized user receives an email when access is granted or removed.

Does an authorized user have the ability to update a student's records?
No, authorized users may only view information associated with records the student designates.

Directory Information

One of the exceptions under FERPA includes information the University has designated as "directory information.” Saint Louis University has designated the items below as directory information:

  • Name
  • Home and campus mailbox address
  • Home and school telephone numbers
  • Email address
  • Major and field of study
  • Classification
  • Participation in officially recognized activities and sports
  • Weight and height of members of athletic teams
  • Dates of attendance
  • Degrees and awards received (including Dean's List)
  • The most recent previous educational institution attended

Students have the right to refuse to let the University designate any or all of the above types of information as directory information by filling out a request to prevent disclosure of directory information form and returning it to room 22 in DuBourg Hall, One Grand Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63103.

Privacy and FERPA Compliance Forms

Request to prevent disclosure of directory information
Request that your personal information not be published in the University phone directory People Finder, the commencement book or the Dean's List. This same form can be used to reverse your decision and have your name included in the above areas.

Recommendation/evaluation authorization and waiver
Write letters of recommendations or provide an evaluation that references student information protected by FERPA.
