14-017 - Methods for treating endometriosis-related infertility

Researchers

Patrick Yeung Jr. and Daniela Salvemini.

Summary

This invention relates to compositions and methods for diagnosis and treatment of infertility, in particular endometriosis-related infertility.  At present, the only way to diagnose endometriosis is by surgery, so there is generally a delay in treatment.  The presence of sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor-1 (S1PR1) in the blood provides a biomarker for early detection of endometriosis.  Treatment is provided by administering an agent that suppresses or blocks sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) or S1PR1 biological activity.
