15-015 - MCPIP1 tumor suppressor

Researchers

Jianguo Liu, Wenbao Lu and Huan Ning.

Summary

This invention includes an isolated polynucleotide, monocyte chemotactic protein induced protein 1 (MCPIP1), that is a potent tumor suppressor that induces apoptosis of breast tumor cells by selectively enhancing mRNA decay of anti-apoptotic gene transcripts, including Bcl2L1, Bcl2A1, RelB, Birc3, and Bcl3.  MCPIP1 expression is repressed in breast tumor cells.  MCPIP1 induction in vivo completely abrogates established tumors and significantly reduced metastasis.
