About College Church

Located on the campus of Saint Louis University, the steeple of St. Francis Xavier College Church is a landmark in St. Louis. It’s a “home­-away­-from home” for SLU students, as well as a local parish that embraces opportunities to serve those in need in the community.

Historical Facts About College Church

  • The church was dedicated to St. Francis Xavier but has always been familiarly known as the College Church.
  • It was the first English­-speaking parish in the city of St. Louis and one of the first to be opened for public Masses.
  • Architect Thomas Walsh, who drew the initial plans for College Church, also designed DuBourg Hall, which for many years was the sole school building on the current Saint Louis University campus.

Daily Masses at College Church

Daily Masses are in the Chapel of Our Lady on the church's lower level. The entrance is at the end of the walkway between DuBourg Hall and the south side of the church.

Sunday Evening Student Mass at College Church

Started in 1990, SLU's Sunday Evening Student Mass is a high­-energy service with dynamic music, inspired preaching and hundreds of students of all faith traditions who are drawn to the community atmosphere and opportunity to center themselves before the beginning of a new academic week.
