Service Opportunities:

- Guide/Volunteer: Achilles International- St. Louis is looking for volunteers/guides who would be interested in running or walking with athletes with different types of disabilities who run, walk, or roll (use a handcycle or wheelchair). Guides are responsible for providing verbal cues on and off the course, and make sure the athlete you are with is comfortable with the pace the athlete picks, gets snacks and waters after practice, and make sure both the athlete and guide are having a great time during their run, walk, or roll during practices.

Mission Statement and Objectives:

Annie's Hope is a community based nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide comprehensive support services for children, teens and their families who are grieving the death of someone significant.

Service Opportunities:

- Family Support Group Volunteer Co-Facilitator: Volunteers will co-facilitate an 8-week grief support group for children, teens, and their families. Groups are facilitated at Annie’s Hope. Annie’s Hope offers 5 sessions of Family Support Groups per year. Volunteers will work with at least 1-2 other co-facilitators and are never on their own. Each group will have approximately 8-10 group members. Each FSG session is a 9-week commitment; approximately 3 hours (6-9 p.m.) per week.

- Meal Server for Family Support Groups: Volunteers serve meals to families attending the grief Support Groups.

CHADS Coalition for Mental Health

Mission Statement and Objectives:

CHADS Coalition saves young lives by advancing the awareness and prevention of suicide and depression.

Service Opportunities:

- Community Ambassadors: Community ambassadors will represent CHADS at events hosted by schools and other community partners. They will hand out literature, answer questions, and have a general knowledge of CHADS programs. Community Ambassadors will be given training in advance.

- Survey Scoring Team: Every year, CHADS will distribute over 40,000 surveys to students all over the greater St. Louis area. These surveys help us determine the attitudes young people have regarding mental health and suicide, as well as help us find out what students are learning through our programs. The volunteers on our survey scoring team are integral to helping CHADS rate its own efficacy as well as helping CHADS secure funding through our exceptional outputs and outcomes. This is an extremely flexible volunteer opportunity, with the ability to check surveys out and volunteer from home.

Delta Gamma Center for Children with Visual Impairments

The mission of the Delta Gamma Center for Children with Visual Impairments is to help children who are blind or visually impaired reach their full potential through family-centered and specialized services and support.

Service Opportunities:

- GRADS group volunteer: Provide support and assistance as needed to pre-school and school-age children with visual impairments as they develop their social skills, build friendships, gain independence, and participate in a variety of community activities.

Service Opportunities:

- Friend InDeed Program: Volunteers are paired one-on-one with a client to develop an engaging friendship. Visit the client at his/her home, engage in social activities with them, etc.

Our mission is to provide all the services and resources a person with a serious and persistent mental illness needs, to manage their symptoms, find belonging and purpose, and gain the independence to live a healthy, quality life.

Service Opportunities:

- Holiday and Evening Activity Support: Support with weekly night activities from 4-7 p.m. one night a week for the Center members. These activities are social support for members to feel a part of the larger society and range from activities at the Center to outings such as the Muny, movies, etc.

- Health Care Home Group Volunteer: Support in our psychiatric and intake center to get potential clients acclimated to the Center and support with screening to see if we can service. If we cannot service them we want volunteer to support/shadow Peer Specialists to connect them to alternative service locations.

- Community Support Volunteer: Help a Community Support Staff member to work directly with client support services - assessments regarding housing, employment, education, psychiatric symptoms, etc. Travel along on drop-offs and support for various client needs -- anything from doctor visits to housing visits, etc. Would be accompanied by a trained staff member.

- Unit Staff Support: Volunteer could work in their area of interest related to wellness, education, employment, housing, retail store, etc. they would be supporting members and staff with running day-to-day tasks within each unit of our Center and shadow a staff member to support adults with mental illness.

KUTO's mission is to prevent suicide and foster the emotional well-being of youth. KUTO prepares teens with the skills, confidence and courage to help their peers, and themselves, cope before, during and after crisis.

Service Opportunities:

- Hotline Crisis Worker: Crisis Worker Volunteers provide immediate telephone response to help persons in any type of crisis; including suicide, rape, family violence, sexual conflicts, etc. Also, refer persons with mental health problems to appropriate community resources, including social service agencies. Training is required and provided free of charge.

Remote opportunities include:

- Complete Crisis Worker Training (see above) in the self-study format - learn the skills to staff the KUTO Crisis Helpline, a youth-peer staffed telephone crisis line serving the greater St. Louis metro region.

- Mentors: Being a mentor to one of our residents - children and young adults who are learning how to cope with emotional/behavioral issues as a result of abuse, neglect, and other early childhood traumas. Must be at least 20 years old.

Pathways to Independence supports, educates, and empowers adults with learning disabilities and associated disorders to obtain the personal growth, enhanced social skills, and greater self-reliance needed for productive employment and meaningful personal relationships. We accomplish our mission through experiential education, employment preparation, recreational programs, community and volunteer activities, and family support programs.

Service Opportunities:

- Inclusion Group Volunteer: We are seeking groups to participate in a monthly group programs where the group of volunteers inclusively interact with a group of PTI clients at a joint event. Could be bowling, dining out, ice skating, volunteering, etc.. Volunteers would be asked to simply interact with clients as they would their peers at school or home with supervision from staff. Seeking groups of 5-10 individuals willing to pay their own expenses for whatever activity is chosen. Service clubs, sororities and fraternities, staff/faculty groups welcome.

- Event Volunteer: Event supporters attend social events and interact with our clients, in doing so, helping clients to learn socialization patterns and common social etiquette skills. Volunteers often can engage in recreational/leisure events alongside clients.

- Office Supporter: Office Supporters will perform light office functions including answering calls, data entry, filing, revise forms and assist staff as needed with various projects that will enhance the overall program.

Service Opportunities:

- Program Aide: : Program volunteers assist staff in recreational, educational and social programs for clients in ways that enable an individual to more fully participate in activities.

- Services Support: Services volunteers support staff in areas related to delivery of services to clients. This may include telephone surveys, follow-up calls and appointment confirmation calls; assisting in the Sight Solutions Shop and with online product orders; helping with arrangements for the support group; and performing other tasks that allow staff to more efficiently fulfill their professional roles.
