At BJC Hospice, through compassionate care, we provide a circle of support that is centered on comfort, quality of life, and the individual needs of each patient and family we serve.

- Home Visitor: Volunteers are needed to visit patients in the patient’s home to provide companionship, respite for the caregiver, help with housework, etc. Most visits take place on weekdays during the day. Having a car is required. Opportunities are limited.

- Inpatient Unit Volunteer: Volunteers are needed at Evelyn’s House, BJC’s 16-bed inpatient hospice facility in Creve Coeur. Volunteer duties include staffing the front desk, upkeep of the house, administrative duties, and occasional visits with patients. Having a car is required.

- Lumina Volunteer: Volunteers are needed for the Lumina program, which offers patients the opportunity to preserve the stories and experiences that define their lives. Volunteers help patients write letters to loved ones or create memory books, scrapbooks, videos, etc. Having a car is required.

Remote opportunities include:

- Blanket-Making: Volunteers are needed to make no-sew fleece blankets for adult patients in hospice. No sewing skills are needed, just the ability to cut fabric and tie knots. This activity is perfect for either a group project or working alone.

- Card-Making: Brighten the day of a hospice patient by making simple greeting cards. It makes a great project to do individually or as a group. All that’s needed is ordinary paper and markers, colored pencils or crayons.

- Veteran's Cards: Make a military veteran feel special in his or her final days by making patriotic greeting cards. The only materials needed are ordinary paper and markers, colored pencils or crayons. Stickers can be used as well.

Blumeyer Community Center, through the Urban Strategies Program, provides tutoring and education to children from the low-income Blumeyer neighborhood right by campus, specifically in math, science, and the use of computers.

Computer Tutor: Assist with basic computer classes for youth and seniors adults.

The County Older Resident Programs (CORP) is committed to making a difference through a wide range of services provided by caring volunteers in your community that allow older adults to live on their own.

Tax Assistance Program

Volunteers will prepare and file 2016 Federal and State tax returns electronically at sites in the St. Louis County.

Volunteers are needed as greeters and appointment schedulers.

Volunteers will be VITA-certified and will begin volunteering at CORP tax assistance sites. A convenient site will be assigned to you.

Volunteer Driver

Provide 3+ hours to transport a county senior resident to and from doctor’s appointments and to other essential destinations.

The Neighborhood Coordinator makes all of the arrangements with the volunteer and the senior resident each time.

Provide social interaction in the senior’s home.

Crown Center's mission is to provide affordable, quality, independent living in a caring, secure, diverse and friendly atmosphere

- Dining Room Server: Tasks include setting tables for meals, signing in dining room participants, serving and clearing meals in dining room, socializing with diners. Meals are also delivered to Crown Center residents as needed. This is a great opportunity to get to know our residents. Training provided. No experience necessary. Prefer at least one shift per week.

- Computer Tutor: Computer, SmartPhone, Tablet Tutoring: Work one-on-one with a Crown Center Resident to help them master the current technology skills needed to use today’s most popular gadgets.

- Interpreter: Crown Center has a diverse population with many residents speaking Chinese and Russian. Although we have part-time translators on staff, there are times when it would be helpful to have an interpreter present during special programs, and also to help with specific tasks like teaching a resident how to use the computer or when serving in the dining room.

Family Hospice brings compassionate and professional care to individuals experiencing a terminal illness. We seek to assist individuals in the communities we serve find meaning in the dying process by providing hospice care not just for end of life but for all life.

Empowered by the compassion of Christ, HealthVisions seeks to empower the people of East St. Louis to live healthier lives, This will be accomplished through faith-based collaborative services. HealthVisions has two ministries: Faith in Action to Serve and Transform (FAST) and Faith Health Ministries (FHM) FAST promotes healthy living and independence by providing interfaith, volunteer-based non-medical support and caregiver services to individuals who are homebound, frail, elderly, disabled or afflicted with chronic illnesses in the greater East St. Louis community. FAST seeks to ease isolation and loneliness. Faith Health Ministries promotes health and wellness within the faith community using disciplines of worship, service and education. Faith Health Ministries seeks to strengthen the role of churches in promoting health and wellness for the faith community.

- Life Story Volunteer: Assist patients with writing their life story – a wonderful gift for family and friends. Tools (provided) used to record the story are tailored to the patient and may include scrapbooks, audio tapes, written word, video or a combination.

- Readers: Love a good book? Like to start your day with a quick read of the newspaper? You have a lot in common with our residents! Share this love by spending time one-on-one or with small groups reading books aloud or sharing highlights from the day.

- Resident Transporter: Assist residents needing help getting to and from Chapel, the beauty shop or clinics on campus. Duties include pushing a wheelchair or providing a steady arm. (All locations)

Building brighter futures through exceptional behavioral health services, especially for those with the greatest need.

- Resident Volunteer: Interact with our residents. Our residents are women 55 and up with mental health disorders. Many of them do not have family or friends that come to visit them, and simply enjoy having someone to be with them for socialization or playing card/board games. They also love to play BINGO.

- Beautification Volunteer: Help Beautify Mary Ryder Home. We can use assistance with upkeep outside the facility in our garden in our backyard, as well as painting in our front yard.

The Missouri Veteran's Home serves to enhance the lives of our WWII, Korean War, Vietnam and peace time Veterans

- Store Worker: The Canteen at the Missouri Veterans Home - St. Louis provides snack items to our Veterans, family members, staff and other volunteers. We are looking for volunteers with great customer service skills to assist customers with their purchases, run the cash register, and restock supplies. The mission of the Northside Youth And Senior Service Center, Inc. is to enhance the quality of life of our clients by serving the basic needs of the elderly, children and families in the St. Louis Metropolitan area by providing; 1) Access to education, counseling and health services; 2) Recreation and social program; 3) Daily nutritional meals.

The mission of the Senior Tech Helpers club is to establish a volunteer group that provides technology assistance to the elderly in our community while developing impactful relationships with them and the community. In order to achieve this goal, students will visit various volunteer locations where they will work one-on-one with residents to help them discover the conveniences technology can provide. Senior Tech Helpers will uphold the Jesuit Mission of Saint Louis University by providing meaningful assistance and education to the elderly to make their lives easier, more enjoyable, and more well-connected.

- Helping Seniors with Technology: On a regularly scheduled basis, a group of students will visit retirement centers and work one-on-one with residents to answer any questions they may have about their device and/or help them learn how to use their device.

Connecting undergraduate healthcare students nationwide with hospitalized children, isolated seniors, and their families, to provide fun, friendship and support. Our vision is a world in which healthcare providers demonstrate empathy and kindness and hospitalized children and isolated seniors receive compassionate care.

- Hopsital Buddy Program: Facilitates weekly virtual buddy visits with children who are patients of World Pediatric Project, brought from South America for medical care, where they engage in fun activities and building connections to provide fun friendship and support.

In-person opportunities include:

- Senior Buddy Program: Facilitates monthly in-person group activities with residents at partnering facility to provide intergenerational connections for volunteers. These connections can then lead to buddy matching where volunteers are assigned an individual buddy to connect with weekly via in-person, by phone or virtual calls, for meaninful interactions.

- Hospital Buddy Program: Facilitates connections with international pediatric patients brought to the US for medical care. Volunteers provide weekly visits, both in-person and virtually, depending on the needs of the patient and their caregiver, to allow these patients opportunities to develop friendships and enjoy activities to distract them from the stressors associated with ongoing medical care. They also provide regular group activities for residents at the Ronald McDonald House in St Louis where the patients reside during their stay in the states.

Visiting Nurse Association of Greater St. Louis (VNA) provides a coordinated continuum of care, throughout one’s life span, that promotes health, independence and dignity in the home and community without regard to race, color, age, sex, religion, sexual orientation, gender identification, national origin, socioeconomic status, political beliefs or disability.

- Hospice Volunteer: Provide companionship to patients by visiting and extending friendship on a weekly or every-other-weekly basis. Patients are located either in homes or nursing home facilities.

- Resale Shop Volunteer: Volunteers are needed to assist in our Hospice Resale Shop, acting as a cashier, floor clerk, or merchandise sorter .

- Craft Volunteer: Get together once or twice a month to make seasonal and craft items for patients/families, crochet, etc.

- Visiting Volunteer: Provide a form of companionship for a Senior in our Visit-A-Bit Program that is experiencing loneliness and isolation. Assist with educating the senior on techniques that will assist in living alone happily while providing an outlet for conversation, bonding and rapport building.

To educate and empower older adults and their families for quality living across the continuum of long-term care.

- Volunteer Ombudsman: Under the direction of the Regional Coordinator the Volunteer Ombudsman educates residents on their rights and provide advocacy to individuals who live in long term care facilities. Ombudsmen act as mediators for residents, families and facility staff in order to help resolve resident complaints. The goal of the Ombudsman is to improve quality of life for residents. Ombudsmen serve as an important communication link between resident and staff, becoming a relied-upon source of information and assistance, benefiting everyone involved.

- Office Volunteer: Help research answers to callers' questions on tong-term care options and direct support. Respond directly to calls on long-term care questions.
