SLU Named a 'Best Value in Private Colleges' School

Saint Louis University has been named one of Kiplinger's "Best Values in Private Colleges" for 2017. This year's list includes the top 100 private colleges in the country.

Previously, the University has also been listed as one of Barron's "Best Buys in College Education."

At Saint Louis University, 97 percent of incoming freshmen receive financial assistance, and the average financial aid package for a 2015-16 first-time freshman was $28,030.

The schools included in Kiplinger's 2017 lists represent the colleges that provide high-quality academics at a reasonable cost during tough economic times. The colleges exemplify the attributes parents and students look for in higher education, including small class sizes, a high freshman retention rate and a high four-year graduation rate. Many schools, including SLU, have appeared on the list multiple times.

Kiplinger's rankings measure academic quality and affordability. Academic criteria include the student admission rate, the test scores of incoming freshmen, the ratio of students to faculty members, and the four-and five-year graduation rates.

On the cost side, Kiplinger's measures the sticker price, the availability and average amount of need-based and merit-based financial aid, and the average student debt at graduation.
