Clay Institute's Pathways to Progress Program Cohort 1 Continues Their Journey
The inaugural cohort of the Clay Institute's Pathways to Progress program continues to dive into advocacy work. The group recently went to Washington, D.C., and met with numerous legislative staffers.
After returning from their spring break trip in Washington, D.C, the inaugural cohort of the Clay Institute's Pathways to Progress program continues to dive into advocacy work.
The students visited with staffers for Congressman Wesley Bell and Senator Josh Hawley. They provided the staffers with facts sheets and talking points over bills that they found important to the St. Louis community and the national landscape.
The cohort also was led on a tour of the Capitol Building by Former Congressman Lacy Clay Jr. and met with Clay and his partners at his law firm during their trip. They also met with organizations including the D.C chapter of the Poor People's Campaign, Network Lobby for Catholic Social Justice and the Association of Jesuit Colleges and University.
Since their return from this intensive trip, the cohort has been busy working on how to share their experiences and encourage the entire SLU community to become involved in advocacy. The cohort with be present at the 1818 Grant & Community Engagement Showcase from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. to present the the legislative advocacy they worked on.
Following the showcase, the cohort will transition to a panel presentation to share more about their experience with the program and lead a call to action for participants. The panel will be held in Cook Hall Room 240 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 30.
