Submission Guidelines

All faculty, staff and students of Saint Louis University are invited to submit items for consideration to run in the Newslink Daily Update, which is emailed three times a week to the SLU community. Newslink editions are published on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Please note: The Division of Marketing and Communications has final discretion to determine content and posting dates.

Submitting Events

Events must be submitted through the online calendar. In general, only events affiliated with the University will be published. Readers are encouraged to submit calendar items as early as possible. All submissions must be in complete sentences. Events submitted at least one week in advance may be published twice at the discretion of the Newslink editor (special request required). 

Submitting News and Announcements

News and announcements must be submitted through the online submission form. The daily deadline is noon, but earlier submissions are strongly encouraged. In general, only items affiliated with the University will be published. All submissions must be in complete sentences. Certain announcements may be published more than once at the discretion of the Newslink editor and University Communications team, including the assistant vice president for communications. 

Lectures and Speeches

News about faculty delivering endowed/named lectures or major keynote addresses may be published individually. Presentations or talks given at conferences are generally reserved for professional and academic notes, a feature published regularly during the school year.

Awards and Recognition

News about individual faculty and students receiving national awards that are prestigious in nature may be published individually. Other awards, including most internal SLU awards, are generally reserved for professional and academic notes, published monthly during the school year. 

Books and Publications

News about faculty authoring general interest works may be published individually. Textbooks, book chapters and journal articles are generally reserved for professional and academic notes, published regularly during the school year.

Faculty Appointments

News about individual faculty members' appointments as endowed chairs/professorships or leadership of national or otherwise significant organizations may be published individually. Other appointments are generally reserved for professional and academic notes, published regularly during the school year.

Student Scholarships

News about individual students being awarded endowed and named scholarships may be published individually. Internally funded scholarships and grants are generally reserved for professional and academic notes, published regularly during the school year. Annual fellowships, scholarships and awards that are prestigious in nature and distributed by SLU academic units to a group of students (more than two) may be included as an individual news item, accompanied by a group photo and information about the specific honor.

Media Mentions

Faculty, staff and students interviewed or quoted in local and national news outlets may submit items for inclusion in the daily "SLU in the News" section, provided that their affiliation with the University is noted. 

Writing Style

Submitted articles will be edited to adhere to the University’s writing style guide, as well as Associated Press and Catholic News Service style. (Note: articles may also be edited for content and length.)

Photos

Photos may be submitted for news articles by emailing newslink@slu.edu. Send uncropped, original image files (jpegs) that are at least 1,000 pixels wide. Unless the photo is a portrait, horizontal images are preferred.
