Off-Campus Transportation

Saint Louis University's Parking, Card and Transportation Services offers specials, discounts and recommendations for students, faculty and staff looking for off-campus transportation.

MetroLink and U-Pass

The nearest MetroLink train station is the Grand Station, between Saint Louis University's north campus and the SLU Medical Center on Grand Boulevard. Find your best route to and from SLU and plan your trip by visiting Metro's online Trip Finder or by downloading the Transit app available in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.

U-Pass

All students living in University housing are automatically enrolled in the SLU U-Pass program, which can be used to ride MetroBus and MetroLink at no charge. Students eligible for the program will be notified of how to obtain their pass at move-in. You must have both your U-Pass card and your SLU ID any time the pass is used.

If you cannot present your U-Pass and your SLU ID to Metro personnel or fare inspectors, you may be issued a citation and be required to pay a court-imposed fine.

How do I use U-Pass?

When you ride a MetroBus, tap and hold your U-Pass where it says "Tap Here!" on the farebox.

When you ride the MetroLink, tap and hold on the red and blue gateway target on the red station validators. In both cases, lights and sound will indicate you are finished.

Why should I use U-Pass?

The U-Pass program provides greater access for students to participate in community service and to take advantage of St. Louis' cultural and entertainment venues. Metro also offers ADA-accessible trains, buses and services for those who have disabilities or who are mobility challenged, and can transport bicycles, which can further broaden your opportunities to get involved in St. Louis.

Why is the program only for SLU resident students?

A pilot program in 2015-16 showed the best use for U-Pass was for students living on campus, many of whom do not have vehicles.

Can I share my U-Pass with a friend?

No. Each pass is assigned to your specific Banner ID so you cannot share it with a friend.

How do I get to the MetroLink station?

SLU's Grand Shuttle will take you to the Grand Station from either the north or south campus.

Who do I contact with questions?

For questions regarding the Metro U-Pass program, email the Student Government Association at sga@slu.edu. For problems with your U-Pass, call 314-977-2957 or email parking@slu.edu. For questions about how to use your card, call Gateway Card Center at 314-982-1500.

Discounts for Non-Resident Students, Faculty and Staff

Full-time students who do not live on campus and are 23 or younger can purchase a pass at the discounted rate of $175 per semester. You will need to provide a valid student ID and proof of age. A semester pass can only be purchased for the fall or the spring semester. There is no summer semester pass offered by Metro. You can also purchase a monthly Metro pass for $78.

Pre-tax Metro passes are also available to full-time faculty and staff through payroll deduction. Employees making under $40,060 per year who purchase passes through the Office of Parking, Card and Transportation Services are eligible for a $100 subsidy over a year of Metro passes.

Airport Transportation

The MetroLink will take you directly to the airport. Visit www.metrostlouis.org for information, routes and schedules.

Ground transportation to the airport is also available at a discount for students living in on-campus residence halls with Go Best Express. Call 314-222-5300 or 877-785-4682 for rates and schedules.
