Canvas Service Restored - Information for Students and Faculty

May 8, 2026

Dear SLU Community,

As you saw from the ITS email earlier this morning, Canvas is back up and appears to be running normally. This means you may proceed with course-related activities in Canvas.

Recommended Actions At This Time

  • In-person final exams continue as scheduled (unless instructors notify their students otherwise).
  • To reduce the impact of potential future disruption, we recommend that you download materials from Canvas that you may need to complete end-of-term activities. Such materials might include gradebooks, study guides, and the like. If you need assistance downloading materials from Canvas, or if you notice anything unusual as you resume course activities in Canvas, please contact the ITS Service Desk at ask@slu.edu
  • Instructors who know their end-of-term activities were disrupted during the outage should contact their students with specific information about how those activities will be completed. (You may message your students in Canvas or use these instructions to email them from your SLU O365 account.) Please be as flexible as possible as you work with students to get back on track.
  • Students whose end-of-term activities were disrupted during the outage should contact their course instructors with any concerns about completing final exams/assignments.

We know this outage came at a critical moment of the academic year, but we also know our faculty are committed to getting students across the finish line as we close the semester.

Thank you for your patience, and best of luck wrapping up the semester.

Sincerely,

Mike Lewis, Ph.D.
Provost
