Frequently Asked Questions About Events at SLU

If you are scheduling an event at Saint Louis University, you may have questions about our policies or what is allowed in the space.

You are welcome to contact Event Services during our regular hours with any questions, but staff members are frequently out of the office working to make sure that our spaces are properly staged. You may be able to find the answer to your query below.

Reservations and Event Space Details

What are the capacities of SLU event spaces?
 All event spaces at Saint Louis University have capacity limitations designed according to the fire code, which may limit the maximum number of people who can enter an event. You can find the capacities of each room are listed under the venue menu.
What type of audio visual is offered in SLU event spaces?
 All audio visual capabilities are listed in our reservations tab.
How can I reserve a classroom on SLU's campus?

Saint Louis University's Office of the Registrar handles all reservations for auditoriums and classrooms through 25Live. Keep in mind that Saint Louis University’s first priority is educating its students. When class is not in session, however, our auditoriums and classrooms may be available for your event.

What do I do if I need to cancel my event at SLU?
 Should you need to cancel your request, you are responsible for reaching out to the event planner to cancel your reservation. All cancellations must have at least a three day notice.
What happens if my event at SLU is canceled due to weather?
Saint Louis University Event Services does not automatically cancel events when the University cancels classes due to weather. For inclement weather cancellations, groups must contact Event Services at least two hours prior to the scheduled reserved time to cancel their event. 
Are SLU's event spaces compliant with accessibility standards?

All of the event spaces listed in our venue menu conform to ADA standards and are accessible to all. Wheelchair accessible water fountains and restrooms are available throughout the buildings. 

Who do I contact to  reserve Manresa?
Campus Ministry currently reserves all activities for the Manresa Center. Contact them at manresa@slu.edu or 314-977-2425.
How do I reserve space at the Saint Louis University School of Law?
Event Services does not reserve any space at SLU's School of Law. Please contact event planner Julie Orr at 314-977-7074 or julie.orr@slu.edu.
Who do I contact to plan an event at St. Francis Xavier College Church?
If you’d like to host an event at College Church, contact Katie Jansen Larson at 314-977-1954.
How can I reserve parking for my event?
Event Services will work with you to determine your parking needs related to an event and will make all arrangements Saint Louis University Parking and Card Services. Parking and Card Services charges events at a tiered rate based off of guest attendance. Learn more about parking rates for events at SLU

 

Food, Entertainment and Outside Vendors

How do I order food and beverages at my event at SLU?

Saint Louis University Event Services does not provide food, linen or china; please contact the campus caterer for your needs at 314-977-9430 or caterslu@slu.edu.

Can I serve alcohol at my event?
Alcoholic beverage service is only provided by vendors who obtain a liqueur license from the State of Missouri. If your event is taking place in the Busch Student Center, Sodexo will be the only vendor to provide alcohol for your event. No exceptions will be granted. 
What are the policies for having a food truck on SLU's campus?

All food trucks must provide insurance with general liability and workers compensation. You will need to coordinate with event services to host a food truck on campus. All requests require approval from Saint Louis University Facilities Services and Risk Management.

How do I reserve a dunk tank for my event on SLU's campus?

Outdoor events that require access to water (i.e for a dunk tank, games, etc) will need to coordinate with Event  Services. Water requests require approval from Saint Louis University Facilities Services.

If I have to pay for a service as part of my event at SLU, who will be sending the invoice?
All billing and invoices will be sent from your event planner. If you have any questions regarding prices or payment, please contact your direct event planner. Your event planner will not send you an invoice for catering. 

 

Advertising Events and Sponsorship

What are the policies on sign staking and chalking SLU's campus?

Chalk advertisements are permitted on concrete only in areas that can be naturally washed by rain and are not under building overhangs or surfaces. Only washable sidewalk chalk may be used. No messages that use obscene or defamatory language, threaten physical harm or are not entitled to the protection of free expression are allowed.

All sign staking must be 24 inches away from the sidewalk. Signs may not be placed on the turf soccer field leading up to the Busch Student Center from the Olive and Compton garage. If signs are not picked up at the conclusion of the client's event, the client will be charged accordingly.

All reservations for campus staking and chalking must go through our Google form.

Where can I table for an event at SLU?

Tabling is only available in SLU's Busch Student Center, Cook Hall Atrium and at limited outdoor locations.

How do I know if my event at SLU is co-sponsored?

A co-sponsored event must relate to the mission and function of the sponsoring department, as well as conform to the Saint Louis University and the Jesuit missions. Learn more about co-sponsored events at SLU.

 

Other Event Policies and Permissions

What are the guidelines if I want to decorate  for an event I am having at SLU?

Glitter, confetti and wall hangings are prohibited from all event spaces. Open flames are also not allowed. Clients will be held responsible for any damages related to their event.

Can I smoke in an event space at SLU?

Saint Louis University is a tobacco-free campus. Smoking is prohibited in all campus buildings.

Are animals allowed in the event spaces at SLU?

With the exception of service animals or security dogs with handlers, no animals are allowed within any event spaces at Saint Louis University. The director of Event Services must approve exceptions to this policy.
