Late Payment Fees

Saint Louis University helps students understand and manage late payment fees on their student accounts. Learn when late fees are assessed, how to avoid them and whether you may qualify for a one-time late fee waiver.

What is a Late Payment Fee?

Late payment fees are assessed when a past-due balance remains on a student's account after the semester due date. To avoid this fee, students must make payment arrangements by the semester due date — either by paying the balance in full, enrolling in a semester payment plan or securing sufficient financial aid or loans.

It is the responsibility of each student to review billing statements and ensure that tuition, fees and other charges are paid by the published due date.

One-Time Late Fee Waiver Opportunity

Saint Louis University recognizes that circumstances may occasionally result in a late payment. To support students while promoting financial responsibility, eligible students may be considered for a one-time late fee waiver.

Students who receive an approved late fee waiver are not eligible for additional late fee waivers during their enrollment at Saint Louis University. As part of the review process, students must meet with a Student Financial Services counselor to discuss the circumstances that resulted in the late fee, review payment options and financial resources and complete a late fee waiver acknowledgment form.

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for a one-time late fee waiver:

  • Your student account balance, excluding the late fee, must be paid in full. Requests with an outstanding balance will not be reviewed.
  • You must complete a meeting with a Student Financial Services counselor within 14 business days of the last day of the term in which the late fee was assessed.
  • You must understand that the late fee waiver is a one-time opportunity and that approval will make you ineligible for future late fee waivers.

Required Meeting with Student Financial Services

Students seeking consideration for a one-time late fee waiver must schedule and complete a meeting with a Student Financial Services counselor through EAB Navigate in mySLU within 14 business days of the last day of the term in which the late fee was assessed.

During this meeting, the counselor will:

  • Review the circumstances that resulted in the late fee.
  • Discuss available payment options and financial resources.
  • Review strategies for avoiding future late payment fees.
  • Complete the late fee waiver acknowledgment form with the student.

Completion of the meeting and acknowledgment form does not guarantee approval of a late fee waiver. All requests are subject to review based on eligibility requirements and Student Financial Services policies.
