Off-Campus Courses and Reverse Transfer

Off-Campus Course Articulation

Off-campus courses (after matriculation) are courses taken after a student has begun their studies at Saint Louis University that are offered or completed at a location other than St. Louis, Madrid or an approved study abroad/away location.

Beginning in fall 2025, students are limited to nine credits of off-campus coursework taken after applying toward their undergraduate degree.

  • Off-campus courses taken before fall 2025 do not count toward the nine-credit-hour cap for off-campus courses.
  • Courses taken at SLU-approved study abroad locations do not count toward the nine-credit-hour cap for off-campus courses.
  • Exceptions for other study abroad/away may apply. Please email the registrar@slu.edu with your request.

If a student’s DegreeWorks does not show the appropriate off-campus course credits, students may submit a “Request a Change” (located under the "Links" menu) and identify which course they want to be used toward their degree completion; only nine credits will be allowed.

All courses taken off-campus by current Saint Louis University students must be approved by your college or school and routed through the Office of the University Registrar prior to credit being posted. Please complete and submit the Petition for Undergraduate Off-Campus Enrollment to begin this process.

Students can view previously articulated courses and/or submit a request to have a course articulated via Transferology.

This approval process may take two to four weeks to complete. Questions regarding the transfer course articulation procedures or the status of your transfer coursework should be directed to articulation@slu.edu.

The Articulation Process

Step 1: Send transcripts from outside institutions to Saint Louis University

Please request an official electronic transcript to be sent to the SLU Registrar’s Office at registrar@slu.edu.

Students should check that all their grades have been assigned prior to sending to SLU. Ungraded course work cannot be applied to your academic record.

Important: Sending to the Office of Admission will delay processing. Requesting the transcript to be sent to you and then forwarding to registrar@slu.edu will not constitute an official transcript and will not be processed.

Or provide a sealed official transcript, to:

Saint Louis University
Office of the University Registrar
One Grand Blvd.
St. Louis, MO 63103

Step 2: Courses are entered on your student record

Most transcripts are processeed by the Office of the University Registrar within 10 business days.

Step 3: View your Degree Evaluation

Once coursework has been added to your student record you may view how it meets your graduation requiremetns in in DegreeWorks.

Reverse Transfer

Missouri has moved forward with a statewide policy to help more Missourians earn degrees. For more detailed information on Missouri reverse transfer, visit the Missouri Department of Higher Education website, read the FAQs below or contact SLU’s reverse transfer coordinator, Jay Haugen, at jay.haugen@slu.edu.

What is Missouri Reverse Transfer?

The process of allowing college students or former college students who have completed credits for an associate degree to receive that degree even if they have transferred to a different college or university, or dropped out of higher education altogether.

What are the benefits?

You can earn your associate degree while pursuing your bachelor's degree at Saint Louis University and possibly meet general education requirements within your SLU college or school.

Am I eligible?

You must have earned a minimum of 15 credit hours at a single two-year institution to be eligible for a reverse transfer degree. Students are not eligible for the program if they currently possess an associate degree or higher.

How does Saint Louis University help with reverse transfer?

Saint Louis University will work with students to help send transcripts to partner two-year institutions in order to facilitate the reverse transfer process.

What do I need to do to participate in reverse transfer?

You will need to give us permission to share your transcripts with your two-year college. Please complete the Reverse Transfer Transcript and Record Release form and submit it to the Office of the University Registrar.
