Off-Campus Courses and Reverse Transfer

Off-Campus Course Articulation

All courses taken outside of Saint Louis University will be recorded on a student’s academic record, but only 9 credits from off-campus courses may be applied toward a student’s SLU undergraduate degree.

  • Off-campus enrollment taken before Fall 2025 does not count toward the 9-credit-hour cap for off-campus courses
  • Exceptions for approved study abroad/away may apply, please check with your academic advisor

If a student’s DegreeWorks does not show the appropriate off-campus course credits, students may submit a “Request a change” and identify which course they want to be used toward their degree completion – only 9 credits will be allowed.

All courses taken off-campus by current Saint Louis University students must be approved by your college or school and routed through the Office of the University Registrar prior to credit being posted. Please complete and submit the Petition for Undergraduate Off-Campus Enrollment to begin this process.

Students can view previously articulated courses and/or submit a request to have a course articulated via Transferology.

Step-by-step instructions for using Transferology can be found here. Study abroad courses must be approved by following the process outline.

This approval process may take two to four weeks to complete. Questions regarding the transfer course articulation procedures or the status of your transfer coursework should be directed to articulation@slu.edu.

The Articulation Process

Step 1: Send transcripts from outside institutions to Saint Louis University

Current SLU Undergraduate Students

Please request an official electronic transcript to be sent to the SLU Registrar’s Office at registrar@slu.edu.

Important: Sending to the Office of Admission will delay processing. Requesting the transcript to be sent to you and forwarding to registrar@slu.edu will not constitute an official transcript and will not be processed.

Or provide a sealed official transcript, to:

Saint Louis University

Office of the University Registrar

One Grand Blvd.

St. Louis, MO 63103

Current Professional and Graduate Students

Send your official transcript to the address specified by your college or dean's office.

School for Professional Studies students: Please send your official transcript to spstranscripts@slu.edu.

Or provide a sealed official transcript, to:

School for Professional Studies

Brouster Hall

3840 Lindell Blvd.

St. Louis, MO 63108

Step 2: The registrar’s office will route courses to the appropriate academic department to evaluate the transcripts

You will need to submit a final transcript once all course grades have been recorded by the originating institution. Ungraded course work cannot be applied to your academic record.

Courses for which you received a C or better will be evaluated and articulated. Courses with a grade of C- or below will not be transferred.

Step 3: Courses are entered on your student record

If the courses you are transferring have been evaluated previously by SLU, then they will be articulated immediately. If courses have not been previously evaluated, they will be routed to the most closely related department at Saint Louis University for evaluation.

Step 4: View your academic transcript

You can view the SLU equivalent courses via your academic transcript on Self-Service Banner.

Reverse Transfer

Missouri has moved forward with a statewide policy to help more Missourians earn degrees. For more detailed information on Missouri reverse transfer, visit the Missouri Department of Higher Education website, read the FAQs below or contact SLU’s reverse transfer coordinator, Jay Haugen, at jay.haugen@slu.edu.

What is Missouri Reverse Transfer?

The process of allowing college students or former college students who have completed credits for an associate degree to receive that degree even if they have transferred to a different college or university, or dropped out of higher education altogether.

What are the benefits?

You can earn your associate degree while pursuing your bachelor's degree at Saint Louis University and possibly meet general education requirements within your SLU college or school.

Am I eligible?

You must have earned a minimum of 15 credit hours at a single two-year institution to be eligible for a reverse transfer degree. Students are not eligible for the program if they currently possess an associate degree or higher.

How does Saint Louis University help with reverse transfer?

Saint Louis University will work with students to help send transcripts to partner two-year institutions in order to facilitate the reverse transfer process.

What do I need to do to participate in reverse transfer?

You will need to give us permission to share your transcripts with your two-year college. Please complete the Reverse Transfer Transcript and Record Release form and submit it to the Office of the University Registrar.
